Acoustic: Ellie Goulding – “The Writer”

30 Jul

Ellie Goulding’s album, Lights, is a great debut album, worthy of all the praise and recognition it has received in the UK, where it debuted at #1 on the charts.

“The Writer” is her latest single, the fourth from the album, and will be released on the 9th of August. It’s a great ballad, and here is an amazing acoustic version of the track. Ellie has a interesting way of phrasing and signing, which comes across heavily in the acoustic version. I love her voice and singing, and really like strings in this acoustic version.

Take a listen and grab yourself a copy of Lights.

New Album Art and Tracklist: Sharon Corr – Dream of You

30 Jul

Here’s the cover for Sharon Corr’s debut solo album, Dream of You. The album is to be released on the 13th of September in the UK and Ireland. The lead single, “Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime” will be released a week ahead of the album. (Hopefully the album will get an International or US release date soon.)

Here’s a live performance of the single, “Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime”:

Here is the tracklist for Dream of You:
1. Our Wedding Day
2. Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime
3. So Long Ago
4. Mná Na h’Éireann
5. It’s Not A Dream
6. Smalltown Boy
7. Buenos Aires
8. Cooley’s Reel
9. Butterflies
10. Dream Of You
11. Real World
12. Love Me Better

Here’s a chilling live version of “Smalltown Boy”:

I really love the album cover, as a fan of The Corrs, I’ve come to learn that Sharon is the hopeless romantic and classically elegant, and the cover is a great representation of her personality and her music. Since Sharon has been teasing us with the album for a while, it is a bit of a surprise that a few songs she’s been playing live are not on the album, including “Jenny’s Chicken”, “Over It”, and “Ears Painted On” (future B-sides?) On the flip side, I’m excited that the Bronski Beat cover “Smalltown Boy”, “Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime” by The Korgis, “Buenos Aires” with Alex Ubago, and “It’s Not A Dream” made the album. I’m excited and curious to see what the whole album sounds like. And now we wait…

New Music Video: Olly Murs – “Please Don’t Let Me Go”

29 Jul

Diana Vickers has done it successfully, and now Olly Murs is hoping to have a successful career post X-Factor. After losing the title to Joe McElderry (does anyone really lose on X-Factor though?), Olly Murs secured a record deal with Syco and Epic Records, and is releasing his first single post X-Factor.

The track is called “Please Don’t Let Me Go” and will be released on the 29th of August in the UK.

If you watched Olly on X-Factor, you’ll find that the song suits his personality and persona. It is not manufactured or too far from who Olly is and what he did on X-Factor each week. He has a cool and suave charm about him, and it permeates the track. The song is cool, catchy, and is a nice slick summer song. It’s fun, flirty and cheeky.

And here is a live acoustic version of the song:

I like Olly and “Please Don’t Let Me Go”, and as showcased in the acoustic performance above, Olly has a great singing voice and is talented, he also has charisma. I am curious to hear what direction the album is going to go in. Is it going to be more standards/crooner a la Michael Buble, more pop like Robbie Williams, or maybe some cool Jason Mraz vibes… I guess we will soon find out. Until then, enjoy “Please Don’t Let Me Go”.

What do you think of Olly Murs and “Please Don’t Let Me Go”?

New Music Video: Melanie C – “We Love To Entertain You” (The Fan Video)

29 Jul

“We Love To Entertain You” is the B-side track for Melanie C’s single, “This Time”. The single is the title track from Melanie’s fourth solo album, which was released in the UK in April 2007! After from her brilliant debut album, (my favorite, such a classic) Northern Star, This Time is my favorite solo record from Melanie. It has so many great songs, including “Carolyna”, “What If I Stay?”, “Understand”, “Don’t Let Me Go”, and “The Moment You Believe“. It’s a great album, very mature and concrete.

Melanie C just released a fun fan music video for “We Love To Entertain You”, which features clips sent in by fans from around the world. The music video is quite fun to watch, especially the cameo!

Here’s what she wrote on her website about the video:

“Here it is! The fan video for ‘We Love To Entertain You’!
Thank you to everyone who sent in a performance video, as you will see from the final edit – we had quite a few. From doing ‘the running man’ to dancing in just a pair of speedos, fully staged routines to simply jumping about in your bedrooms. You guys sure know how to rock out!”

Melanie is currently working on her fifth album, but there aren’t too many details at the moment. It was initially rumored to be out later this year, but I think it will most likely be released early next year at the earliest. Until then, “We Love To Entertain You” will have to entertain us.

Oh, and Melanie, please hurry with the next album. But also take your time and make it good. But also hurry.
