“Charlie” by Kenneth Pattengale is a touching, heart-warming, and funny song that I really enjoy. In the song, Kenneth is singing to and giving advice to his daughter Charlie, err, his yet unborn daughter Charlie. The lyrics of the song are very sweet, endearing and touching:
“come to me with problems, I swear, I won’t go try to solve ‘em
I’ll only tell you everything I know
like standing tall was all I had
like boys are bad and love’s a fad
that no one ever learns to just let go
Charlie, there’s just one little thing before we meet some lovely spring
I have to go and you find you a nice momma
she’ll be just like me and you, perfect in just what we do
a love as strong as father and his daughter”
Kenneth is releasing a live performance of the song on iTunes and Amazon today. The live version was recorded at McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica this past April, and features Joey Ryan on guitar and additional vocals.
I had the opportunity to see Kenneth and Joey perform this beautiful song at HotelCafe a few months ago, and it was beautiful. They will be playing a show at HotelCafe on the 22nd of July. It was the first time I heard Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan, and I instantly knew this song was special. The lyrics and sentiment of the song are very sincere and touching. You can feel the love between Kenneth and Charlie, (which is a bit odd and creepy). The live recording of the song is great and I recommend you download it, it’s only 99 cents.
Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan are doing several shows in LA aside from the HotelCafe date, and are touring the Mid West soon – be sure to catch them when they come to a city near you. You can check out the full list of dates here.
Here is a clip of another live performance of “Charlie”. If you enjoy it, get the mp3 here.
Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan also recorded an amazing version of “GhostTown” by Cary Brothers. Check out the video and their killer harmonies here.
