Download to Donate – Music for Relief

18 Feb

Music is universal. It conveys many emotions, thoughts, and feelings, and fills the gaps left vacant by language and language barriers. It is truly inspiring to see many artists lend their support and voices to a great cause. Music For Relief is an organization that has helped many people. With the recent devastating earthquake in Haiti, many artists have come together to assemble a collection of songs to gather money for the much needed relief effort.

Download to Donate is a 12 track album, that can be downloaded for a donation. There is not set price, just download it, and contribute what you can and feel necessary. The artists include: Linkin Park, Dave Matthews Band, Alanis Morissette, Slash, All American Rejects, Hoobastank, Kenna, Enrique Iglesias, Lupe Fiasco, Jack Johnson, Weezer, and The Crystal Method. Take a listen to all the tracks.

This was initially intended to be about Linkin Park and their new song “Not Alone” and the accompanying music video. I thought it would be more appropriate to include and promote the whole album, as it is for a good cause.

Here is the original bit about Linkin Park, and the video:

Linkin Park has come a long way from Hybrid Theory, the bands debut album in 2000. In 2007, the band released their third studio album, Minutes to Midnight. The album has 12 songs, most of which are lyrically profound and inspired. While Hybrid Theory was a musical breakthrough, the songs lacked the depth and maturity the band gained in the 7 years between the albums. Minutes to Midnight is a great album and features some amazing songs including, “In Between”, “Valentine’s Day”, “Leave Out All The Rest”, “Shadow of the Day”, “What I’ve Done”, and my favorites, “The Little Things That Give You Away” and “Hands Held High”.

“Not Alone” is a new track that follows in the same vain of Minutes To Midnight. The brand new song is off the Music for Relief album, which aims to raise money for Haiti. “Not Alone” is a great track, it’s very simple and basic, but the message is big. The lyrics aren’t the deepest or most profound, but the sentiment of the song, along with the footage in the video is touching and sincere. Chester Bennington has a great voice and it really suits the song – his voice is rough enough for the rocky edge, but also soft and emotive enough to carry the depth and sincerity of the song. Take a listen, and be sure to donate and download the track.
